What Does The Lab Result With High Gamma Glutamyl Transminase Indicate?

Hi I got a mildly abnormal lab result saying that my gamma glutamyl transaminase is high 41 u/L. I am a 36 year old female. The other leaver values are within the normal range. ALP 80 u/L. GOT 28 u?L GPT 27 u/L I am not an heavy drinker (a couple of beers per week) and particularly in the last month I have been on a diet and drinking even less. Is it something to worry about? Thanks

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Increased GGT is specific for alcoholic liver injury.
Your problem is related to alcohol intake.
It is important to know the other parameters of LFT like bilirubin level, viral markers.
You need few more investigations like random blood sugar(RBS),renal function test(RFT),lipid profile, urine RE/ME.Ultrasound of abdomen should also be done.

You should take tablet Ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily for three months more.It will help in regeneration of liver cells.
You should avoid red meat and high fat milk products.
You should avoid fried and junk food and completely avoid alcohol.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.

Take Care
