What does this MRI result mean? The infundibulum is slightly deviated to the left. Prominent pituitary gland with an upward convex superior margin. Total measurements are approximately 1 x 1.5 x 0.75 cm (AP x TR x CC). This most likely represents physiologic enlargement or less likely an early macroadenoma. No evidence of pituitary microadenoma is identified. Of note, contrast enhanced MRI is able to detect pituitary microadenomas once they reach 3 to 5 mm in diameter. Smaller lesions may not be detectable. If the hormonal abnormalities persist, repeat MRI imaging in the future may be of help. I ve been treated for elevated prolactin since 2007, but never a defined tumor. Recently, my prolactin levels have started to climb along with increased headaches. The above MRI was done because of these issues. I think it is saying that the gland in enlarged, but no tumor. Then it says no microadenoma , but could be enlarged from a macroadenoma.... so confused.
