What Does The Minimal Left Pleural Effusion Around The Lung Indicate?
Hi Dr Rynne, I am studying a course for medical receptionist. I am currently interpreting a sample x-ray report and would like to know the difference between pleural fluid and pleural effusion. The report states that there is minimal left pleural fluid. Thanks Rachael
Pleural effusion and pleural fluid are same. These are the abnormal fluid collection in pleural space. Pleural fluid is seen of white color on X-ray. Minimal pleural fluid is termed, when the quantity of pleural fluid is very small. Usually a thickness of he significance of minimal pleural fluid is that -- usually it does not require any treatment and it may resolve itself. Also, generally no pleural biopsy or drainage of fluid is advised in presence of minimal pleural fluid.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
