What Does The Painful Knot In The Calf Indicate?

I am a 42 year old male that when I lay down at night or when I take a nap I wake up with charley horses in my calves and my arms. I take a multivitamin everyday along with extra magnesium and potassium pill and when it happens I try to walk it off but my calves always seems that it loosens up a little bit but you always feel like there s a knot in there and sometimes when I m at work it hits and I have to sit down in a chair for fifteen to thirty minutes and massage my calves but it seems like it loosens up but never goes away same with the arms.I don t know whats causing it I only weigh 142lbs and am 5 feet 7.5 inches tall very atheletic and work out three or four days a week.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welcome to HCM,painful knot or a cramp in the calf muscle generally indicates low calcium levels .I would recommend you to get Serum calcium levels done and start a supplement accordingly, meanwhile high calcium intake in the form of dairy products can be started.
