What Does The Presence Of Endometrial Cells In The Pap Smear Test Signify?
I have just received a call from my internist that stated that my PAP was fine, but endometrial cells were found. I need to make an app t with a great OB clinic and go through some testing. I am 64, so there is no break-thru bleeding. She said they might do an ultra sound or whatever they see fit during the exam. Any ideas on what this could be???

General & Family Physician, Dr. Taimoor's Response
Hi and welcome to HCM. I'm Dr. Taimur and I will be addressing your health concerns. I have read your question and understand your concern.
Endometrial cells on a Pap smear of a patient of your age should be taken seriously and further investigation should be done thoroughly as these cells might be a sign of endometrial malignancy. Other possibility is benign endometrial cells found on Pap smear which is of not much significance. In my hospital in such patients ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis is done followed by endometrial biopsy for histopathological examination. My recommendation to you is to visit a gyanocologist and get yourself properly examined and investigated.
I hope this might be of some help, if you have any query feel free to ask me any time. Thanks. Dr. Taimur
