Hi, I've just come back from the doctors and something was said. My 8 year old daughter had to have a kidney and bladder ultrasound and was discovered her kidneys are in the 3rd percentile. Apart from being small, everything else OK. However, it was noted that she has 7 foliciles on one of her ovaries and 9 foliciles on her other ovaries. What does this mean. I should have asked the doctor but I didnt.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Presence of multiple follicles in ovaries of a 8 year old girl could be due to polycystic ovaries. However, polycystic ovaries at this age are not of any consequences. If this condition is present, it will present at the age of menarche or when the child attains puberty. The polycystic ovaries can present with menstrual irregularities. Kidneys within percentile is any condition or any organ within normal limits. Thus, the ultrasound is not showing any abnormality in the kidneys.
Thaks and take care DR Shailja P Wahal
