Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a frozen embryo transfer (5day blastocyst) and at 5w6d had a transvaginal scan to rule out an eptopic pregnancy after some abdominal pain. The scan showed a gestational sac, yolk sac but no fetal pole. The sonographer also backdated me to 5w4d - which doesn t make sense because I had IVF. My IVF clinic do not do regular bHcgs - just a 7 week scan. The IVF clinic have booked me in for my 7 wk scan on Friday. I understand that I need to wait for this but no-one (including my fertility specialist) have commented on what this could mean. I know you can t provide me with an exact answer but I would like a doctor to provide me with some guidance
The gestational sac and yolk sac appear early in pregnancy. The fetal pole /heartbeat may be seen between 6-7 weeks by a vaginal scan and 2 weeks later by an abdominal scan.
A yolk sac is good news but not definitive that your baby is developing Please be calm and relax till your 7 week scan when you can see sure signs of your baby developing. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Best wishes and good health to you and your family
