What Does Thin Black Discharge From Right Ear Indicate?

I have a thin black discharge coming from right ear. It hurt for about a week and half...not so bad now. Have not been able to hear out of that ear for about 8 years...but have constant loud ringing in it. Do I need to be concerned after all these years that there is now a black liquid draining?
