Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This BP Reading In A Patient Post Triple Bypass Surgery Indicate?
My name is Melissa and my mother has many health problems. She recently had triple by pass surgery and 4 titanium plates were placed in her chest to hold her sternum together after she fractured it in 4 places. Her blood pressure is currently 87/53. She is lying down and seems to be resting. Is her blood pressure too low?
She is suffering from too low blood pressure (hypotension). A blood pressure reading of 90/60 mm of Hg or low is considered to be too low for elderly person like your mother. Hypotension may cause dizziness or fainting which may increase the risk of falls and some of the serious fractures. I advise you to consult her treating doctor to adjust the doses of medicines that she has been receiving following her triple by pass surgery.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
