Hi, My brother is having a severe headache, nausea, unable to walk since last 1 month and double vision . Dr did MRIs, CT scan everything looks normal. Then he did lumber puncture to do the CSF test. In CSF analysis, protein and glucose level are high. CSF analysis is for 3 mls suger - 46 protein - 273 Color - Straw ADA-MTB test result - 6.7 Mycobacterium tuberculosis - Not detected. Fungal culture & Stain Fungal Stain - No fungal elements detected. Fungal Culture - Preliminary - Negative Fungal Culture - final - still waiting. Can anybody suggest me what disease he is having?
I can understand your concern and would try to help you in the best possible way. You have not mentioned the cell count and differential count of the CSF.
From the above information we may conclude that sugar is normal but proteins is high. Taking te clinical picture into account a differential diagnosis may iclude: 1. Meningoencepahlitis probably due to TB (even though ADA levels are normal) 2. Guillian Barre syndrome 3. Mutiple sclerosis
You need further evaluation for the above conditions whihc may include few blood tests and CSF oilgoclonal bands and other tests to rule out above conditions. I suggest you see a neurologist who may run a diagnostic workup for him.
