Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Please can you explain in words that a lay person can understand a CT head result that describes age related involutional changes, extensive bi-lateral ventricular subcortical white matter change. Features suggestive of extensive ischaemia/small vessel disease.
hi the report of the ct scan says that the brain is showing normal changes that are noticed when the scan is done on an elderly person - age related involutional changes. the extensive ischemia/small vessel disease means part of the brain is not recieving the normal flow of blood it should be getting hence resulting in that part of the brain starting to die off. usually brought about in people whose blood pressure not controlled well resulting in a stroke, or have a growth in the brain that is causing blockage of flow of blood to that part of the affected brain. would suggest get the person reviewed by a physician to be started on the necessary medication. hope to have answered your query thanks and take care.
