Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My results of a CT scan are as follows (please explain what this could mean has caused this) Periventricular hypodensity is likely to represent chronic ischaemic changes.... Mild ventriculomegaly and generalised cerebral atrophy out of context with patients age of 44 years old...
This brain CT report indicates changes in brain due to reduced oxygen availability to brain. Reduced oxygen supply indicates reduced blood supply to the affected area of brain. Ventricles in brain are spaces filled with blood and CSF. Ventriculomegaly means enlarged ventricles. In my opinion it is because there is generalised cerebral atrophy. Cerebral atrophy means shrinking of brain tissue, which results in enlargement of ventricles. At the age of 44 it is not so common. It can happen in an elderly person of beyond 70 years of age.
Next course of action should be to identify the cause behind it and prevent any further damage due to similar process. Visit a neurophysician urgently.
I hope my reply will help you. Please write to us for follow up queries. I wish good health to your husband. Kindly provide a feedback on this reply.
