What Does This CT Scan Report Indicate?
CT scan shows 4.9 x 2.2 x 5.2 cm pleural-based density in the medial left apex. Margins are smooth. No aggressive features. No pulmonary consolidation. No pleural effusion. Blood panel fine. Stress test fine. I have shortness of breath these past 2 months when vacuuming, bending over . 58 years old. Non smoker. BMI normal. Female. History of dry cough off and on for the past 4 years. Do I need a pulmonary test or other test to find out why I become short of breath? Radiologist did not think the density was constricting blood flow.

A mass of 5.2 cm in the pleura and complaints of shortness of breath and dry cough, requires evaluation. If you were your treating doctor I would like to do the following:-
1. Do you have any previous X-rays of the chest or CT scan, it would give an idea whether this 5.2 cm density was previously there or it is a new finding. If its been there since before and size has remained the same, then we can ignore and the shortness of breath could be because of something else. However if its a new finding or size has increased then would like to evaluate further with more tests.
2. If you dont have any previous imaging X-ray or CT scan available, then I would like to get this mass biopsy - that is taking a sample of this density and looking under microscope to know the exact nature of this density. However, the location mentioned could be tricky, so would advise to meet a thoracic surgeon - a doctor expert in chest diseases, for the same.
