What Does This CT Scan Result For Abdomen Indicate?

hi my husband had a physical in feb and his psa was high so they sent him to a urologist to retest.his levels were 14.5 and the urologist suggested a ct scan and a bone scan before he would discuss my husbands options on how to proceed. The test were done and they said everything looked fine so we went to talk to the urologist and he suggested that my husband have his prostate removed because his gleason scores were a few 8 s...had a consultation with a robotic surgeon that is going to remove his prostate but.......she said oh it looks like you a cyst near your right lower quadrant of the abdomen just superolateral to the cecum The adjacent colon is draped around this mass..... she said we should have a surgeon look at it when he has the robotic surgey done but it s no big deal..... the second surgeon looked at the ct scan and she said oh...the cyst is the size of a tennis ball and they misread the scan so I need you to have a colonoscopy done before the prostate surgery...he is scheduled for the colonoscopy on wednesday and we are really scared .On the report from the ct scan it had under the impression heading:considerations are lymphocele or mesenteric duplication cyst.especially in the abscence of adenopathy in the remainder of the abdomen and pelvis.Necrotic adenopathy would be extremely unusaul....what does this mean..we know he has prostate cancer and that s what they want to remove but what does this stuff about hte cyst mean? email: YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

From the CT findings it is described not a solid but liquid mass which most probably goes for a mesenteric cyst . No need to worry about it as it is a benign diagnose. A necrotic adenopathy would be associated with peritoneal liquid in CT moreover is rare. The colonoscopy will clarify if the walls of the colon are normal. However, this should be removed and the biopsy of it will make clear the benign nature of it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Julinda Maksuti, General Surgeon
