What Does This DEXA Scan Report Of Lumbar Spine Signify?

I had a recently had a DEXA scan for lumbar spine and left hip. lumber spine is 0.810. T-score is -3.1..left hip is 0,561 t-scare is -3.5. I know the numbers probably determine how bad this is. my question is this something I can treat with vitamins or should I consider medications. some of the side effects sound terrible.

Hello,

A T score of -3.1 is diagnostic of osteoporosis. This means that you have significantly reduced bone density which puts you at risk of bone fractures.

Calcium and vitamin D supplementation is advised in patients with osteoporosis to improve the bone density. A follow-up DEXA scan after 6 months of treatment would show how well your body is responding to the treatment.

All the best!
