Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have GERD and recently had a EGD done and the report says, Esophageal body was grossly within normal limits. Scope was advanced to the level of the EG junction. Circumferential changes of grade 2 reflux were identified 38cm from the incisors No stricture as associated. Can you tell me what this means. Are there different degrees of GERD and where would I fall in this catagory. I am looking at having a Gastric Sleeve done and was wondering if this would make the the GERD I have worse or improve it?
Your EGD report 'circumferential changes of grade 2 reflux were identified 38 cm from the incisors, No stricture as associated' shows early features of GERD. Well, there are 4 grades of reflux and as you progress from grade 1 to 4 the severity increases.
With this respect, you are in the begining of the disease which is reversible with medical treatment. So, you should not worry too much. If I were your treating doctor I would not recommend you to have Gastric Sleeve done as many studies shows that this will further worsen your reflux problem and has some complications after the procedure.
Insteed I would suggest to go for gastric bypass in this situation if your obesity is a matter of concern.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harihar Devkota
