What Does This FNA Test Report Indicate?

Greetings. I had a FNA of a small but painful cyst on my clavicle. The results are mixed but the Cytopath finally declared it was on my lymph node she would call it basically benign even though it was clearly fighting off something . I was just hoping to have it removed but the ENT sent me for the biopsy. Will they still remove it or does this mean I can t move forward with excision? Thanks, Dawn

Hi.

Noted your history of FNAC of the lymph node near clavicle, said to be benign by report, ENT advised so and avoided complete removal.
Excision can be done for sure if required.
Your ENT must have though otherwise due to proximity of the node to the bone, nerve or vessels in which case it is best to avoid removal unless indicated so.
I would advise you the following:
Get the relevant blood tests.
Ultrasonography and guided repeat FNAC to prove the nature of enlargement, its relation to the vessels or so nearby.
Go for the removal only if your Doctors suggest.
After the investigations fo for the proper course of an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medicine as needed or advised.
Take care and do not insist on something that you believe, go by the rules of the Doctors.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
