Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have been having pain under my right rib for about 4 years now. I went about 2 weeks ago and had a hida scan done. The results were as follow: The liver demonstrates homongeneous activity . There are no focal intrahepatic lesions demonstrated. There is visualization of the gall bladder by 15 minutes, common bile duct by 15 mintues and proximal small bowel by 30 minutes. After administration of CCK gallbladder ejection fraction is calculated at 33%. Normal value is greater than 35%. There is compliant of pain scale of 10/10 with CCK injection. Impression; LOW GALLBLADDER ejection fraction. What does mean? Will I need surgery as a results of the findings?
Gall bladderejection fraction on hida scan is a test done to see how much bile leaves your gall bladder when it contracts, which helps in digestion of fats
A normal gall bladder ejection fraction is 35 % anything below that is considered dysfunction of the gall bladder
My advice would be to go to you gastroentrologist for treatment.
In my opinion there is no need for a surgery as this is just a functional disorder of the gall bladder and can treated with medicines
however you need to have your diet under check by avoiding any processed foods or fatty foods meat dairy and eggs.
Instead have fruits and vegetables and whole grain products
Wishing you good health!
