What Does This HSV-1 Test Report Mean?

I had a doctor test me for HSV and has yet to contact me to inform me as to what my results mean. Could you look at the below information and possibly explain to me what it means? Component     Standard Range     Your Value HSV-1 IGG             5.00 HSV-2 IGG             4.99 Value Interpretation ----- -------------- 0.90-1.10 Equivocal 1.10 Positive This assay utilizes recombinant type-specific antigens to differentiate HSV-1 from HSV-2 infections. A positive result cannot distinguish between recent and past infection. If recent HSV infection is suspected but the results are negative or equivocal, the assay should be repeated in 4-6 weeks. The performance characteristics of the assay have not been established for pediatric populations, immunocompromised patients, or neonatal screening.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

By the report, you are positive for Igg antibodies against HSV1 and HSV2. This denotes that you are having recent or past infections against both HSV1 as well as HSV2. However, it can not differentiate between presence of recent or past infection. Treatment needed will depend on your symptoms and clinical presentation under guidance of your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
