What Does This LFT Report Indicate?

Had lipoprotein panel done and cholesterol value is 262 mg/dl, LDL cholesterol is 184 mg/dl, hdl cholesterol is 51 mg/dl, chol/hdl ratio is 5/1 and triglcerdes 136 mg/dl. I discontinued Statin drug 1 year ago due to crippling muscle spasms side effects and taken Red Yeast Rice instead of Statin; however, the numbers are increasing from last year lab. What do the numbers indicate? Is there a better alternative i could use for quality of life (freedom of movement and no pain) vs. (quantity of life years with painful side effects)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Red yeast rice contains lovastatin, a statin but likely different from the statin that you were using.
Persons react differently to the different brands of statins. This means that since you did not seem to have muscle pain with the red yeast rice (lovastatin), you may not have a reaction with another statin that would lower your cholesterol levels

Alternative there are other medications besides statins to lower cholesterol eg niacin, ezetimibe.

I hope this helps
