Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This MRI Report For Drooping Eyelid Indicate?
My MRI shows a cerebrospinal fluid collection seen superior to the cerebellum which is prominent. It appears to cause some mass effect on the superior aspect of the cerebellum and could represent an arachnoid cyst. There is an enhancing vessel noted in the right parietal lobe consistent with a congenital venous anomaly. The para nasal sinuses reveal muscosal thickening and secretions in the anterior ethmoid sinus on the left extending into the frontal sinus. My CT Scan shows considerable muscosal thickening at the floor of the left maxillary sinus, and scant mucosal thickening or retained secretions in the right maxillary sinus. There is mild mucosal thickening involving the frontal sinuses and some of the ethmoid air cells as well as the sphenoid sinuses. There is an object in the left side of the oral cavity which may be a dental appliance. There are calcifications in the right palatine tonsil. The reason I have had these done is because my left eye lid has been drooping for 18 months with it more prominent during fatigue, headache or when I had the flu. I am not sure what to do or what type of doctor to see with this or if I need to worry??
Finding of an arachnoid cyst is only incidental and is present in many without symptoms. Regarding the findings of your para nasal air sinuses, everything is good and no need to worry. For arachnoid cyst, kindly consult a neurosurgeon. Most of the cysts are left in place as they are mostly asymptomatic.
But in case of pressure effects, causing symptoms, it needs surgical intervention. Your MRI report suggests it is causing mass effect on the superior aspect of cerebellum. So, my sincere advise is to see a neuro surgeon such that he can decide the course of treatment based on examination, symptoms and MRI CT findings. Please don't worry as arachnoid cyst is not uncommon and Is treatable.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
