What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

I recently had a MRI which showed a 1 cm lesion in the L parapharyngeal space which is T2 hypointense as compared to the adjacent parotid gland. Given the low T2 signal, a benign mixed tumor is considered less likely. Does this mean a cancerous tumor is more likely?

Hi,

No, it means that there is a benign tumor, not cancer. And to be sure, you may need to take a biopsy from it to analyze it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Salah Saad Shoman, Internal Medicine Specialist
