What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

Im trying to get a better understanding of a resent test. A recent MRI report shows opacification of the left mastoid air cell. Correlate for any left-sided mastoid pain that would suggest mastoiditis. Now does this truly mean that I do have mastoiditis?

Hi,

Can you mention what were your symptoms and why an MRI was ordered?

Although opacification of mastoid air cells is seen in mastoiditis, this may not be always the case. Often we get such incidental findings while ordering MRI for other purposes.

If you do not have complaints of headache, pain or tenderness over mastoid, and no history of ear infection before, chance of having mastoiditis is low. But as I said, reports need to be interpreted on clinical back ground.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
