What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

I have lower lumbar area back pain post lifting injury 2 months ago, (old, 20+yrs burst compression fx L4) MRI shows in conjunction with a retrolisthesis the posterior cortex of L4 veterbral body, moderate right and severe left neural foraminal narrowing medially.... Mild lateral recess narrowing with slight posterior displacement of right L5 nerve root. What does that mean in layman terms, and prognosis?

Hi,

The report says that there is backward displacement of two lower vertebral bones, leading to narrowing of holes on either sides of vertebra.

This causes pressure on nerves coming through that holes, which can cause pain and weakness of legs.

Prognosis depends on clinical findings, and any improvements achieved so far. If no improvement at all in 2 months, its unlikely to have further.

From report, it seems like this will need surgery. Kindly discuss with your surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
