What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

Thanks. I had an MRI to try to identify a feeling that there s something like a lump in my lower back, left side. It s been there a long time (at least 10 years), but has lately been causing me discomfort. Feels larger sometimes, and can also feel like a raw blister. And ultrasound and the MRI were both inconclusive about that, but the MRI report also noted Bladder is partially distended and grossly unremarkable. This caught my interest and Google tells me my bladder is normal, but it s NOT. This is, of course, unrelated to the lump sensation in my lower back. Since early childhood I ve had very little bladder control, and I m now 68. It s getting worse. The distended bladder should help me, according to what I ve read! I always wondered if my bladder could be particularly small, or crimped somehow. I m a very active and involved woman, and exercise regularly. Any thoughts on this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The lump sensation over lower back with no lump in the ultrasound or MRI report indicates that there is no swelling what is actually felt by you. However, the distended bladder if it is noticed after emptying bladder can be part of sphincter incontinence of detrusor instability purpose and the same should be evaluated with expert nephrologist or urologist.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
