Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife has slipped while walking down the stairs. 2 months of physio and medicines has not shown any improvement. did an MRI LUMBAR SPINE.MRI indicates mild posterior bulge at L4-L5 and L5-S1 disc causing thecal sac indentation. What does this mean? Best treatment? How long will it take to get relieved completely?
This shows a prolapsed intervertebral disc at levels L4-L5 and L5-S1. Slip disc decreases the lumen of foramina of the vertebral column and causes pressure on the nerves arising from the spinal cord. Thus causing pain and radiculopathy. You should take bed rest, use a hard bed, avoid bending, continue physiotherapy, do hot fomentation and use painkiller anti-inflammatory agents like Advil. I prescribe Gabapentine and antidepressants like Duloxetine to such patients of mine. Please consult your neurologist and follow his advice. Don't worry, you will improve with time. Surgery for it is another possibility.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
