Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have been suffering from migraine headaches for last 20 years. I am 39 years old male. I just had my MRI and showed stable mild ectopia of cerebellar tonsils measuring approximately 3.8 mm. What does this mean? Should I be concerned? I had one MRI in 2013 then it was normal. It didn t show any of this and howcome now it shows? I am really concerned. I need your advice. Thank you, Jayakumar
Hi Tonsillar ectopia, encompassing slight descent of the cerebellar tonsils and Chiari I malformations, are disorders observed routinely in older children and adults and are believed to be an acquired form of the Chiari malformations
Chiari malformations defect in the area of the back of the head where the brain and spinal cord connect
If the Cerebellar tonsils increase in size they may put pressure on another part of the brain called medulla oblangata which passes through the skull opening
Suggest do not neglect the condition and consult another neuro surgeon for second opinion and if required he may suggest for repeat MRI
Wish You Good Health
Regards
