Hi, My son is 21 days old. Suspected born with HIE and now condition baby looks good. He can now breastfed. Just gone MRI. Can you explain the result of MRI and can this baby recovered. Since he s only 21days old, what best option for treatments. The result of MRI as per below Apparearances indicate hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy with areas of infarction and encephalomalacia involving left external capsule and subcortical white matter in the left frontoparietal the temporoparietal regions There is also a large cephalhaematoma in the vertex No subdural heamatoma. No hydrocephalus Thank you
As per my clinical experience, the MRI report depicting hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy with areas of infarction suggest intra uterine or peri partum issue through compromised placental blood flow.
Following are best measures for better recovery: - 100% oxygen by face mask - Maintain oxygen saturation of SpO2 range of 96-98% - Check adequacy of systemic circulation and need of supportive intravenous fluid - Intravenous antibiotics as Ceftriaxone or others
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
