Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I had an Mir done for a neck related injury. The findings were incidentally noted a mildly enlarged and heterogeneous thyroid gland with several nodules seen bilaterally. If clinically indicated this may be evaluated with thyroid sonograms . I saw my dr who read the report. He scheduled me for a nerve test for my injury. He examined my neck. But mentioned nothing about this. Should I be concerned?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The interpretation of MRI of neck is as follows: The thyroid gland is enlarged with formation of nodules. Presence of multiple nodules is thyroid gland raise the possibility of mutinodular goitre. An aspiration or fine needle aspiration will help in making diagnosis of the lesion. In case the lesion turns out to be multi-nodular goitre, surgical excision will be requested. The nerve test that your doctor has prescribed appears unassociated with thyroid enlargement. Nerve test is done to assess the function of nerves supplying a particular body part. Since, you have a history of trauma, the trauma could have damaged the nerve supplying that particular area. Thus, consult your surgeon for thyroid enlargement and orthopedician for nerve related tests.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
