What Does This MRI Result For Back Indicate?

I was diagnosed with a mixed spondylotic protrusion with peripheral annular tear at T8-9 level abuts to ventral cord.I believe the tear happened at the Chiropractor s office.I only went one time 2 weeks ago, do to mild back discomfort (1 on a 10 scale). He did a adjustment and immediately it felt like someone through gas on my back and lit it. I took 2 weeks off work and got a MRI one week later. My finding was above. Could this Chiropractor of messed my back up? What do I do now?

Hi,

The MRI finding suggests that there is a disc protrusion at the T8-9 level in your spine, which is pressing against the front part of the spinal cord. Additionally, there is a tear in the outer ring of the disc (annulus fibrosis), which can allow the inner disc material to leak out and further irritate the nerve roots and spinal cord.

It is possible that the chiropractic adjustment caused or worsened the disc herniation and/or the annular tear. However, it is also possible that the disc problem was already present and the adjustment simply aggravated it. It is important to note that while chiropractic treatment can be effective for some patients with certain types of back pain, it carries risks like any medical intervention.

In terms of what to do now, you should discuss the MRI findings with your doctor or a spine specialist. Depending on the severity of the symptoms and the extent of the damage, treatment options may include rest, physical therapy, pain medication, epidural injections, or surgery. Your doctor can also advise you on whether to continue seeing the chiropractor, or whether to seek alternative treatments.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
