What Does This MRI Result For Recurrent Gastritis And Nausea Indicate?

hi. iv e been fighting mild to severe gastritis for years. have been on multiple ppi s. Most recently dexilant. Also Carafate prn. When symptoms get bad, my PCP tells to to adjust my meds, more or less whatever I need to do. Started having what I self diagnosed as severe gastritis in May/2015. it would come and go. Until recently where it got pretty bad. With aching type pain, mild nausea, and at times what felt like really bad hunger pains. Last EGD was September 2014. Showed mild gastritis. I went to GI doc 3 days ago. Had ultrasound of abdomen. Office called today and said they wanted to do MRI due to dilated common bile duct. Most of discomfort is epigastric and LUQ. Also what I ve noticed with this round of stomache problems is a really bad taste in my mouth, which comes and goes with the discomfort. It s a rotten/ bitter taste. I m a hospice RN and of course I right away think of the worst like pancreatic cancer. Would appreciate any imput. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for the question and welcome to Healthcaremagic!

In order to help you out i will need some more information about your health like what is your age? are you on any long term or repeated course of pain killer medicines? Any complaints of yellowness of stool or urine, fever, body pain or weakness, weight loss? Have you been tested yet for H.Pylori?

Long standing gastritis if not relieved by PPI or antacids need H.Pylori testing to find need for antibiotics.Ask your doctor about breath analysis for H.Pylori or H.Pylori antigen testing. If diagnosed simple H.Pylori regimen will help in this issue.
Regarding your dilated common bile duct- this can occur in case of any thing that is obstructing its path which can be a stone or tumor. The earlier you get it tested it the early you can get it treated.

Hope this helped. Takecare!
