Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This MRI Test Result For Spine And Kidney Indicate?
Reviewing MRI for Lumbar Spine and one impression and finding was: Left Kidney is unusual appearance. There is suspicion of malrotated left kidney. Proximal left ureter appears slightly dilated. Suspect malrotated left kidney with mild left renal pelveictasis. Consider correlation with pelvic ultrasound. Can he be misreading the kidney? Can this kidney issue be related to chronic DDD of spine? I have had 3 MRI s and never had an issue of kidney arise except for now. Is this congenital? Can one have late onset malrotation? Should I be concerned and call a urologist? Do not have history of UTI s in last 15 years. This came up because of repeat MRI for spine.
The malrotated kidney does not appear after previous normal MRI unless there is gross tumor or other pathology making position of kidney change, which is very very rare as kidney is a retroperitoneal structure confined to very limited space by its capsule. However, provide all details of your symptoms and MRI plates (current and previous ones) to your doctor, they can guide further precisely in this direction.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
