What Does This MRI Test Result For Thoracic Spine Indicate?
I had an ultrasound and I really do not understand the results. I do not know if I should worry. Can you help? 3 cm lesion in the left lobe of the liver on recent MRI of the thoracic spine. Findings - Correlation is made with MR T-spine 07/24/2015. The liver measures 17 cm. The lesion seen on MR in the left lobe of the liver is a complex cyst. There is a thin septation in the cyst which measures 3.2 x 2.4 x 2.3 cm. There are no dilated intrahepatic ducts. The common duct measures 0.47 cm. The gallbladder is normal. There are no stones, sludge or wall thickening and there is no pericholecystic fluid. Pancreas, aorta and inferior vena cava are normal. Spleen is normal. Right kidney measures 11.3 x 5.2 x 3.8 cm. There is good corticomedullary differentiation and no hydronephrosis. Left kidney measures 10.2 x 5.9 x 4.4 cm. In the left kidney, in the upper pole, there is a 0.64 x 0.55 x 0.77 cm cyst. Cortical thickness is preserved. There are no stones
Can you mention your symptoms, and why a scanning was ordered?
The report says there is a cyst of significant size (fluid collection) in left part of liver. This can be caused by conditions like liver abscess(bacterial or amoebic infection), parasitic infections or neoplasms. Also there is a small cyst in left kidney also. Whether both these are related or not, and the probable cause of the liver cyst depends on detailed clinical picture. Your doctor will discuss in detail.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
