What Does This Pap Test Result For Irregular Periods Indicate?

Hi. I m from canada, I m 22 years old. I ve had a messed up period where I would miss it for one month and then get it back for a span of four months. Now I ve been spotting and lightly bleeding for almost two months now.I got a pap smear which showed, atypical cells that cannot rule out high-grade cells. Also hpv positive. Does this mean I have cervical cancer or pre cancerous cells? And does this mean hpv is high risk because it was detected in my pap? I m so worried and sad.

Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to HPV infection.

Most genital HPV infections aren't harmful at all and go away on their own.

But some kinds of HPV can lead to genital warts or another type of pathologies.

You have to do the HPV test to see which kind of HPV virus you have an treat it properly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
