What Does This X-ray Report Indicate?

Hello, I want to ask about a report of a knee of an athlete my friend who had an injury 10 days ago during a match and we want to understand is this mean he has a torn ligament crusader or something like that , that need a surgery? Also we don t understand what is wrong with him from the report as different doctors in our country said different opinion so please help us! the report stated the following: - ill definition and fuzzy outlines of the anterior cruciate ligament showing intra substance bright signal with discontinuity of its mid fibers as well as low lying orientation of the distal fibers -Mild peri-ligamentous edema is seen surrounding the medial collateral ligament with no evidence of discontinuity of its fibers. - The posterior horn of the medial meniscus shows an abnormal area of increased signal intensity that does not reach any of the meniscal articular surface. -mild amount of joint effusion Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I would say that the xray report you mentioned is quite normal for a healing joint. The effusion is mild which means the amount of fluid around the joint is minimal. When there is an injury its normal for tissues to swell and leak fluid to the surrounding space. This is termed necrosis and post necrotic phenomenon.
Given your friend is able to bear his own weight in the joint, walk normally and has no visible swelling, redness, numbness or warmth of the joint he will get better.
Since knee joint is one of the strongest weight bearing joints the time required might be long but with adequate rest he will gain his normal functioning in no time.
I find this answer helpful
