Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My x-ray findings were the following: There is a low-level of inspiration with prominence of the cardiomediastinal silhouette and pulmonary vasculature. Linear strandy opacities in the bilateral lung bases likely represents atelectasis. No pleural effusion or pneumothorax. What does this mean in lay terms. Thanks you.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The interpretation of X-ray chest is as follows: The lung fields show atelectasis. Atelectasis refers to partial collapse of a part or segment of lung. In health the lung segments inflate while inhalation. However, due to disorders like obstruction of the airways, the lung segments fail to inflate and collapse. There is prominence of cardiopulmonary silhoutte and pulmonary vasculature which does not signify any disorder. You need to consult a pulmonologist for clinical assessment and to find out probable cause of atelectasis and to plan treatment. Blockage of airways is the most common cause of atelectasis.
