What Does This Below MRI Report Indicate?

MRI results are L1/2 Central disc protrusion measuring 2 mm (AP dimension) is seen minimally effacing the thecal sac anteriorly and L4/5 left foraminal 4 mm annular fissure is seen without evidence of disc protrusion or extrusion. I was hurt on the job and have been out of work for almost 6 months. Ortho surgeon is very rude and seems not to care. He has ordered an EMG due to weakness and pain in left leg. Can I get another opinion?

Welcome to Health care magic.

1. There is a disc in between the vertebral bodies with maximum water content with in - when there are degenerative changes with loss of water content, the disc slips and moves posteriorly called disc herniation, protrusion.
2.In your case at the level of L1-2 there is disc slip and causing pressure effect on the spinal chord covering.
3.And at the level of L4-5 there is a annular fissure - is kind of discontinuity in the puerperal zone of the disc.
4.Your findings are not every severe - the probable treatment will be, back exercise followed by physiotherapy - in last stage when there is no relief -operative / interventional treatment will be given. ( if x-ray was not taken please get it done - bone pathology are better appreciated on radiogram).
5.If you have such feeling on the treating doctor - you should find other one, as treatment works only when patient satisfies with doctor.
6.Do regular exercises with physiotherapy things will get in to normal.

Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
