What Does This Blood Report Of An Infant Signify?

Hi My son is 16 months old but he was a preemie born at 31 weeks so his adjusted age will be 14 months. From the month of September 2017 he is having recurrent cough cold and wheezing sometimes associated with fever .It all started by end of September and his first dose of antibiotics was given which made his cough better . After a few days by second week of October he again had cough and wheezing and we showed another doctor who prescribed another antibiotics and his cough got better but not completely gone .After a few days we went to India and he cought up with wheezing and severe cough the doctor gave another antibiotics along with montulekast . His cough got better and we came back to Dubai .After a few days his cough and wheezing got worse and doctor gave another antibiotics which we said we don t want to give as he has taken so much in one month but he insisted us to give and we did gave him . He also took an X-ray of the chest and said there is chest congestion. As usual his cough got better but it was not gone completely. By first week of December we travelled to Maldives and he had mild wheezing and before travelling we just consulted doctor for precautionary medicines to take with us . We took broncylyn ,Adol and nasal drops with us. After coming back from Maldives his chest congestion got worse again in a week again we went back to Doctor he gave us Predo , lorinase and some nebulization medicines but after few days he got high temperature of 102 and we rushed to hospital and doctor told us to admit the baby. We took blood test and the report said he has IDA After 3 days in hospital he got discharged and his chest congestion was much better. They said it is something viral .After 2 week it got worse and again we continued with broncylyn and lorinase for one week and for the past two days he got fever about 99 Iam really worried because he has been sick continuously for the past 4 months and doctors are saying it s just viral . The blood report says the following : Hb _12.1 HCT -36.2 rbc-5.0 MCV-72.3 MCH-24.2 MCHC -33.4 RDW- CV -14.6. platelet count -348 MPV -10 WBC count -13.6 Neutrophils -48.1 lymphocytes -33.6 monocytes -15.7 Eosonophil -1.0 Basophil -1.6 Mycoplasma pneumonia Igm -0.40 CRP serum -1.0 Creatine -0.45 iron -21 TIBC -298 Ferritin -90.6 UIBC -277.2 The report also said the size of RBC is smaller .

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hi,

The blood tests reports of CBC appears normal with reference to age of patient however seem iron levels are low but serum ferritin levels are near normal so patient might have anaemia of chronic disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
