I just had my lab result and it says: Protein, total, serum - 7.3 Albumin, serum - 4.8 Bilirubin total - 0.7 Bilirubin direct - 0.15 AST - 41 High ALT - 75 High All my hepatitis panel are Negative. What does the High level of AST & ALT mean. I have an appointment with my doctor but I can t wait to know what this levels mean. Thank you.
The causes are: * Metabolic syndrome * Hepatitis * Alcohol or drug use disorder * Cirrhosis, which is liver tissue scarring
Other conditions that less commonly cause elevated liver enzymes include: * Autoimmune hepatitis * Celiac disease * Infection with the Epstein-Barr virus, a type of herpes * Liver cancer * Hemochromatosis, when the body absorbs too much iron * Mononucleosis * Sepsis, or blood poisoning * Wilson’s disease * Polymyositis, or simple medicines pain meds etc.
