Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a complete blood test. My doctor thinks my total bilirubin was a little high. It was 1.2Mg. He ordered another blood test to check it again. My AST was a little high - 38, but my Alk. phosphatase was 94 and my ALT was 32. Is this something I should be concerned about - as far as liver disease is concerned. I do not drink alcohol at all. Thank you for answering.
I do not think, your reports to be something worth concern. Your alkaline phosphatase as well as ALT is in normal range. Where as AST mildly above the maximum normal Also, your bilrublin level is marginally higher than maximum normal. This picture can be absolutely normal. Many patients have marginally raised bilirubin level without any long term ill effect on body, like in patients of Gilbert syndrome where unconjugated bilirubin may be slightly raised having no long term effect on body.
However, if you are having other symptoms of liver disease like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite etc. or serum bilirubin as well as liver enzymes become more elevated ,then you are advised to see your doctor for further work up & treatment accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
