What Does This Blood Test Result For Swollen Lymph Node On Left Side Of Neck Indicate?

My 20 yr old daughter has very swelled lymph nodes on the left side of her neck. She has been perscribed pedisone 50mg once a day for 7 days. Her blood test show a slightly elevated white blood cell count and her lymph count is 40. She is fighting something. Won't the pedisone lower her ability to fight an infection? It seems counter intuitive to lower her ability to fight an infection. Thoughts?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain swollen lymph noes along with blood test showing raised white blood cells is an indication of infection and you need to take her to an infectious medicine specialist who can taper off her prednisolone dosage and finally stop its intake as well as start antibiotic therapy to relieve her infection and at times injectable antibiotics can also be given to relive infection faster..
You can do alternate warm and cool compresses over the lymph nodes..
In case if still lymph nodes does not regress an FNAC/Biopsy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
