What Does This Blood Test Result Indicate?

Hi Sir. My name is Soumya Ranjan Pati. I am 27 years old. Recently I undertook a blood test and the TG (309 mg/dl), uric acid (6.4 mg/dl), cholesterol level (197 mg/dl) were quite high. My doctor has prescribed me Lipicard 160 and Atorvastatin for 3 months and advised me to undertake a blood test after 3 months. Just wanted to know how serious are the results and what are the implications. Also what all food items do I need to restrict. A copy of the test report is attached.

Hi,

Cholesterol in the body is divided into good and bad. Bad cholesterol is named so because of its adverse effects on the internal organs. Good cholesterol has beneficial actions in the body. High triglycerides, LDL and cholesterol are bad for health. These can make deposits in several tissues and organs and impair their functions. This may damage the blood vessels too.

Cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular accidents are complications of dyslipidemia. It should be corrected with appropriate diet, regular diet and medications. Fenofibrate helps in reducing blood levels of triglycerides, cholesterol and LDL. It also increases the HDL level which is marked as good cholesterol. Atorvastatin also helps to lower the blood cholesterol. In addition to medication, fat free diet, regular exercise are advised for better outcome from dyslipidemia.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
