What Does This Carotid Stenting Study Report Specify?

I just had a stent put in my right coronary arteries, in reading the report it says , when they in flared the balloon up to 9atmospheres for 30 sec. The patient had chest pain when it was inflated it , it disappeared when it was deflated no Moore EKGchanges. There was spasm prier to the stent in the first marginal branch. After 200 mcg fo Nitroglycerin the spasm in the superior artery appeared normal in appearance with 0% residual stenosis

Hello,

It is very much normal to experience chest pain when balloon is inflated during coronary artery stenting as the balloon inflation completely obstructs the blood-flow causing mild myocardial ischemia. As it is deflated, your symptoms disappeared and it's a very normal phenomenon during coronary stenting.

Spasm means the blood vessel is closed due to contraction of its muscle. So, your first marginal branch, which is also a coronary artery, was in spasm and it was relieved by giving 200mcg of nitroglycerin that helped the muscle in the artery to relax and the artery opened up.

All these are normal during coronary artery stenting and are seen in most of the patients. Please relax and your procedure has been very much fine and you are in perfect health.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
