Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have never smoked but have been diagnosed with lung cancer.I visited my GP with intermittent heart flutter/palpitations.Following chest X-ray,leading to bronchoscope ,ct scan then pet scan,a nodule was identified in the base of the left lung. The hospital consultant confirmed a tumour ,but pet scan results are not yet available. He says the tumour is secreting an enzyme that is causing the heart flutter and that I will require surgery in the next month but will not need radiotherapy or chemotherapy.I look and feel well so am finding this diagnosis difficult to comprehend so would appreciate some clarification.
It's perfectly normal where you can look healthy and still have cancer. This is a small localised cancer, so surgery is better options. It can be removed and you will be permanently free from cancer. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are required where cancer has spread to other organs or not possible to remove surgically. An indian cricketer also had similar cancer (actively playing) and is absolutely fine today. So don't worry, follow the advise of your doctor.
I hope I have clarified your concerns. Please write for follow up queries. I wish you good health. Kindly hit a thanks if found beneficial. Thank you
