Hi I have been suffering with back and rib pain over 3 years, I did see a doctor 3 years ago and he put me off work for a week, blood results showed that my kidneys were just about functioning and asked if I had 2 kidneys, sent me for a scan of my kidneys and all appeared well, 3 years later back to the doctors for a review of my medication as I am epileptic controlled by medication lamotrgine 100mg morning and night, I told her about the pain and said it was getting worse she asked why I didn t visit the GP and I told her I had, she sent me for X-ray results were multiple collapsed vertebrae degenatrive wear of lower lumber kyphosis of the spine with osteophytes along the spine, dextra scan a little under for my age but ok, CT CONTARST scan showed Benign lesion to left femur, slightly bulky left thyroid, at least 3 sub 5mm scattered pleural based densities, said they may represent intrapulomary lymph node, I have also lost 5 1/2 stone in 12 months. My doctor said she would want a biopsy of the lesion and a isotope bone scan, but the problem is that is up to the consultant and he has sent me just for another CT Scan could you please give me some advice as I am thinking about going private I am on lots of medication for pain relive as I am suffering with pain my quality of life has been effected and not enjoying life at the moment also lost my job as I can not work due to my back being so bad, many thanks Jon

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the issue of persistent rib pain with different bone lesions may raise doubt about underlying hormone disorder which may include calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone or else.

A series of lab tests reports with thorough clinical evaluation is mandatory at this stage to proceed for best results.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
