Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had last year Hepatitis B.. now its Negative.. Last time, i had been gone through with Endoscopy. Here is the finding: ESOPHAGUS: Small esophageal varices STOMACH: Portal Hypertensive Gastropathy DUODENUM: No duodenal Pathology Conclusion of Endoscopy: 3 columns of Small Oesophageal Varices Seen Portal Hypertensive Gastropathy Hiatus Hernia Can anybody tell me whats the pros and cons...?
According to the report : (a) esophageal varices- enlargement of blood vessels in the esophagus, this increases the risk of bleeding in the esophagus so these would have to be monitored
The risk of bleeding needs to be reduced with treatment such as endoscopic treatment to try and/or surgery. Endoscopic treatment would include trying to tie off or inject a solution into the enlarged veins to cause them to narrow and close off (sclerotherapy)
(b) portal hypertension gastropathy means that changes or abnormalities were seen in the stomach . These particular changes occur in persons with a history of portal hypertension, most commonly caused by cirrhosis of the liver.
There are medications that are used to help treat portal hypertension Your doctor may advise liver function tests to take a look at the function of the liver
I hope this helps
