What Does This Fecalysis Report Indicate?

My son will be 2 months old on friday. Today the result of his fecalysis shows pus cells of 2-4 /hpf and rbc of 1-3/hpf. What does this mean? He also has UTI with ongoing medication of 1.3ml cefalexin 3x a day for 7 days. He s fuzzy because of fever of 37.6 (with paracetamol) to 39 degrees celcius.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pus cells and RBCs in a stool exam generally indicate an inflammatory type of diarrhea, most likely a bacterial infection. And the treatment involves proper hydration and supplementation with zinc and probiotics. It is as well important to bring him to a pediatrician for proper evaluation and treatment to prevent dehydration and prolonged disease state. He will as well check whether the antibiotic he is taking right now is adequate or needs to be changed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Daryl Derick B. Dizon, General & Family Physician
