What Does This Heart Rate Post Hip Replacement Surgery Indicate?

Hello, my 82 year old dad just had a hip replacement surgery a week ago. Just got out of hospital on Saturday. The reason for his longer stay was an elevated heart rate and low blood pressure. Heart rate at 135. He is home now with 85 year old wife taking care of him. His heart rate was down on Saturday, but then has been creeping back up and now remains at 135. When should I take him to Urgent care??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If no diagnosis or treatment has been suggested for the increased heart rate or there are associated symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, it should be as soon as possible.

The normal upper limit for heart rate is 100, so 135 is very high.

He would need an ECG to take a look at the heart and blood tests (complete blood count, thyroid function tests).

I hope this helps
