What Does This Histology Test Result For Stomach Indicate?
I HAVE SERVEAL QUESTIONS.1. WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN THEY FIND MODERATE MUCOSAL ADNORMALITY CHARACTERIZED BY CONGESTION, ERTHEMA AND GRANULARITY WAS FOUND ON THE LESSER CURVATURE OF THE GASTRIC ANTRUM. 2. MUCOSAL NODULARITY WAS FOUND IN THE DUOBENAL BULB, POSSIBLY BRUNNER S HYPERPLASIA 3. WHY WOULD THEY TAKE BIOPSIES WERE TAKEN WITH A COLD FORCEPS FOR HISTOLOGY .
The likely answers to your queries are: 1. Congestion, erythema and granularity. They are all various types of abnormal appearances of gastric mucosa. This means the lining of lesser curvature (a part of the stomach) are abnormal, we call it as dysplasia of epithelial cells. Dysplasic cells are pre-cancerous and they may be a potent source of Gastric cancer. 2. Brunner glands are in duodenum which secrete the mucus. The swelling of these glands is known as Brunner's hyperplasia. This hyperplasia is usually without symptoms, but sometimes may be a cause of benign tumor of Brunner gland in duodenum. 3. Cold forceps polypectomy can be used easily to retrieve small polyps, particularly of less than 3 mm for histopathological examination.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
