Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my USG KUB report of kidneys shows altered cortical echogencity and maintained corticomedullary differentiation and in urinary bladder reports shown -post void study show 111 ml residual urine volume and others are ok. Will it solve by medicine and what is the cause and precaution ?
You have not mentioned your age/sex, and why a scanning was ordered? The report just says there is altered appearance of renal cortex (outer part of kidney) on ultrasound. This is a non specific term, and does not suggest any particular diagnosis. In asymptomatic individuals, especially older age, this can be taken as a normal finding. The same can be seen in conditions like chronic kidney disease (doing serum creatinine and measuring GFR will help rule out this) or uncontrolled diabetes also.
Post residual urine volume is higher than normal, and most commonly occurs in males with prostate hypertrophy. This initially may respond to drugs, but may need surgery if there is recurrent urine infection or medicines fails. Your doctor will discuss in detail.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
